
Floyd Anthony Thrasher Jr, 89, of Orlando, FL died Dec 26, 2020 at the VA Community Life Center. Floyd came into the world on Nov 19, 1931, in Utica, NY. He was one of thirteen children born to the late Floyd Anthony Thrasher Sr. and the late Dorothy May Roberts.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Jean Marie Prespare; a son, Patrick Thrasher; brothers Irving Thrasher, Ronald Thrasher and sisters Evelyn Thrasher, Linda Lee Albin, Freda Stanley, Alice Roff. He is survived by 4 children: Jane Thrasher, Michael Thrasher, Ann Harvill and Laurie Thrasher, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by 4 brothers: Richard Thrasher, William Thrasher, Charles Thrasher, Lon Steven Thrasher and 2 sisters: Edith Croft, Frances Zyla as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was an Army Veteran first serving in 1948 as part of the “Big Red One” in Lenggries, Germany and was detailed to the Berlin Airlift. He then served in the Korean War with the 7th Infantry Division, 31/32 Regiment which fought on Old Baldy and Pork Chop Hill. Next, he was assigned as part of a CIA Special Force group assisting the French Far East Expeditionary Corps fighting in French Indochina. He last served in the 10th Infantry Regiment in Augsburg, Germany prior to his honorable discharge in 1955.
As a civilian his was a postal carrier for the U.S. government.
He was a member with the Korean War Veterans Association chapter 173, the Disabled American Veterans, The 7th Infantry Division Association and the International Association of Laryngectomees.
In his younger years his hobbies included fishing, baseball, snow skiing, bowling and playing cards. Later in life he loved taking care of his cats, watching sports and visiting the casinos. He was a lifelong Atlanta Braves and Cleveland Browns fan.
Memorial services and interment at the Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a date yet to be determined.
