Alice “Jerry” Buchanan, 93, passed peacefully on January 4, 2021 at her home. A virtual memorial service will be held on January 16th at 10am by St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. The link to the service may be found at www.st.lukes.org under the CARE tab.
Born in Lewisburg, Tennessee, Jerry never lost her southern accent or her charm. Jerry was an active member at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, passionate about Republican politics, a fierce advocate for women to excel and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved gardening, line dancing, music, her family, animals, church, travel and Republican politics.
In politics, she held three terms on the 5th District Appellate Court Nominating Commission, ensuring many women were appointed as judges. She successfully spearheaded campaigns for countless candidates seeking to be elected to public office at the local, state and national level with a particular fondness for Jeb, George H.W. and George W. Bush. With 30 years in banking, she routinely mentored women in their careers. In education, arts and history, Jerry was a fifteen-year Trustee of Valencia College, including Chair, Board Chair of the Orlando Regional History Center and Historical Society of Central Florida Board member.
She is survived by her two children, Lynn B. Moot (Lorence) and Carol B. Richardson (Ed), five grandchildren, Daniel, Bonnie, Rebecca, Katie and Stefanie and 14 great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her greatly.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either The Russell Home for Atypical Children or St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, both of which meant a great deal to her.
I was honored to know Jerry through St. Luke’s UMC Care Ministry. I so enjoyed our visits and her animated and ferocious spirit. Every time I visited I felt so blessed and received the best gift in that she looked just like my mother! She will be missed. Comfort and wonderful memories are wished for her family.
I will be there.
