Alexander H. Archer IV, 87, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024, in Orlando, FL, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 7, 1936, in Demopolis, AL, Alex was the son of Alexander H. Archer III and Frances
Rembert Tibbs Archer. Later the family relocated to Oak Ridge, TN where he graduated high school in 1954 and entered the Navy as a submariner. In 1957, he married his high school sweetheart and began his college education at Auburn University, graduating in 1961 with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
Later he earned a Master’s degree at Florida Institute of Technology while working and raising a family.
Alex’s early career involved working with the manufacturing of solid propellant rocket motors before taking a position to work on the Apollo Program in Cape Canaveral. Later he moved on to continue managing various manufacturing plants and completed his career in executive consulting for Aerospace and Defense manufacturing contracts. He was highly respected for his strong leadership, thoughtfulness, and commitment to his work and was fortunate to have enjoyed the opportunity to travel much of the world during his career.
Beyond his career, Alex enjoyed spending time with friends and family primarily in Canada, Florida, and the Northeast. He was known for his intelligence, his ability to carry a debate, his woodworking, and his delicious smoked turkeys and ribs. He also enjoyed golfing and was a dedicated Auburn football fan.
Alex survived by his children, son, Alexander H. Archer V (Andrea Creiger O’Leary), and daughter, Amy Archer; his grandchildren, Drew (Kyla) Archer, Kyle (Lindsay) Archer, Jake (Shauna) Archer, Cassandra (Andy) Shriver, Alison Klebous; his 5 great grandchildren; his step-daughter, Melanie Caron (Dominic
Brassard); step-son, Marc Andre Caron (Marie); and grandchildren, Catherine and Frederique Brassard, and Eve and Mia Caron; and, his brother, Dave Archer, sister, Anne Archer, and his sister-in-law, Annette Williams Archer, along with many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was lucky to have two happy marriages however, he is preceded in death by both of his wives, Winifred Trent Archer and Murielle Roberge Archer, and also by his brother Taylor M. Archer.
A memorial service will be held on March 17 at 3:00 at the United Methodist Church in Dayton, AL. Friends and family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnels to Towers, a cause that was dear to Alex’s heart.
